DOGGY DNA TESTING

Thank you for your inquiry about Doggie DNAPrint Genomics canine testing. The tests we do perform are for determining the breeds contained in mixed breed dogs and are as reliable as those done by any Vet and more so when it comes to determining a dog's ancestral heritage. (DNAPrint Genomics assesses canine Ancestry Informative Markers - CanAIMs). We do not perform tests for legal purposes or AKC proof of breed information.
1. We anticipate that in the near future the purebred database will be much larger than it is currently, and those who pay $250 per dog and join the Doggie DNAPrint® Club, will always have access to that database as it grows. When you receive your results, you will be given a Code Number which is unique for your dog's genotypes and can always be plugged into the Web site to learn further information about his or her breed mix. As stated above, as time passes, the price for the mixed breed test will increase. We do offer documentation including graphic information about each dog's ancestral percentages; for example types of terriers or rotweilers, mastiffs, shepherds, pit bulls, etc. The percentage results will be quite accurate (generally in the high 90%s in accuracy) for each dog tested and you will learn what is the greatest percentage of a breed within your own mixed breed dog.
Initially, what we are analyzing for in our Doggie DNAPrint® test are the main ancient canine types which have contributed to any mixed breed dog. These ancestral types are the 4 mentioned as ancient breeds (Hunters, Herders, Mastiff, and Wolf-Like). We are expecting several thousand samples of purebred dog information in the laboratory by early this year in addition to the regular numbers of purebred samples that are sent in day by day. Our database will not only include AKC DNA, but European canine DNA as well. Thus we will have a wider sampling of DNA that may be different from only the AKC registered breeds. At that point, we will be able to discern various types of dogs such as Yorkshires, Pit Bulls, Terriers, etc. within mixed breeds.
If you want more specific information about our tests, we suggest that you look at the "Manual" on the DoggieDNAPrint.com Web site for details on what breeds we are including and will be evaluating in the future to obtain mixed breed dog DNA data.
In the Manual, if you check the coloured graphs presented, you will be able to see the vast number of breeds which ultimately will be involved in our testing process. We are now providing information from 107 separate breeds. More will be forthcoming shortly.
Since we offer the Doggie DNAPrint data as percentages, we can also show which breed is dominant in each animal submitted, unless all the breeds revealed are equally admixed into your dog. (Statistically, this would almost be impossible.) As stated, initially we are limited to showing the 4 ancient breeds, but in the future as the database grows larger, many more breeds will be represented. By joining the Doggie DNAPrint® club now at the introductory price, you will be able to access this larger database in a few months and beyond. DNAPrint® Genomics tests are extremely accurate for each individual tested. This is true for both canine and human genomics tests as well.
The ultimate objective of the new canine genetic testing system is primarily to provide information about the ancestral backgrounds of mixed breed dogs in percentages, based on a purebred genomics database against which we will evaluate DNA. Although we are not providing information about purebred dogs at this point in time, we do welcome donations of any purebred canine's DNA so we can further enhance the DNAPrint Genomics database. If you want information about a purebred dog, you can check with the AKC as to how best to proceed to register it. DNAPrint® Genomics, Inc. cannot do this now.
The results we send to customers will contain factual data about each mixed breed dog's DNA that is tested. You will be given a Certificate of canine ancestry and a list of the 204 Genotypes we have examined for the dog that is tested. It is up to the person who submits the dog's DNA whether they wish to include their dog's name and a picture in their submission to us of each animal's DNA. If you have looked at the Doggie DNAPrint® Web site you can see the general style, colours, etc. of our written materials. The results on your dog will be presented in a similar style.
Currently, we are using any individual pure breed information we accrue to offer mixed breed owners information about the proportional composite of the DNA in their pets, what ancestral breeds have contributed to their canine's heritage, etc.
Since we have many years of genomics experience in determining extremely accurate percentages of ancestry from our human genetic genealogy studies (see ), we will be able to make a similar determination about a particular dog's ancestral genetic heritage. Our tests are based on proprietary genomics autosomal SNP Ancestry Informative Marker technology (in this case Canine AIMs) which is similar to what we use in our proprietary human DNA evaluations. As such, this test is really not comparable with other types of tests offered by different organizations that evaluate canine DNA.
Building the Pure Bred Dog DNA Database:
If you personally own or know of a pure bred dog (preferably with registration papers) we are interested in obtaining its DNA. Pure bred information is currently being fed into our expanding database. If you (or a friend or relation) do have a purebred dog and wish to contribute to the DNAPrint® Genomics database, please send us the name and address of the owner, type of dog, etc., and we will send out a research kit with DNA swabs to obtain the DNA from that purebred. Sending us purebred canine DNA is at no cost to you since it will assist us in improving and expanding our purebred database. If there are "papers" on the dog, we would appreciate receiving copies, but it is not necessary for us to get those as long as we have your assurance that the dog is a purebred canine.
However, if you want genetic background information about a mixed breed and/or to join the Doggie DNAPrint Club, you can place an order for a kit and club membership for an Introductory fee of $250 per animal to be tested (add $15 for postage on international requests), and we will send out a kit (or kits) for you to obtain that mixed breed dog's DNA. Obtaining the DNA is easy and quite painless; you just swab the inside of the canine's mouth with the swabs we send upon ordering the Doggie DNAPrint® 1.0 test and return them to our laboratories in the pre-addressed envelopes provided. Please make sure you sign the Analysis Consent Forms for the DNA test. We do take credit card payments by phone - (416) 499-5656 (VISA, MasterCard), - or via a Web site order (), OR you can send a check or money order made out to Dr. George Traitses. and mail it to 2914 Sheppard Ave. E., Suite 206, Scarborough, Ont., Canada, M1T 3J4.
Upon testing your dog's DNA, the 204 Genotypes (at specific markers) we send to you in the Results of your dog's test, will constitute your dog's own personal genetic portrait. These Genotypes remain constant throughout his or her life. This is why, with Club membership, you can always recheck your dog's DNA print in the future as the database becomes much larger with canine purebred information. These Genotypes are some of the particular markers of only your animal. It is the same with humans. Certain markers define a person's (as well as a dog's) unique individual genetic makeup
